After nine years at the helm of YouTube, Susan Wojcicki has decided to stand down from her position as CEO effective immediately. Neal Mohan, who has been the Chief Product Officer for the company for the previous seven years, has been chosen by her as the person who will take over after she retires.
She explained her decision to leave her position as head of YouTube in a blog post for the firm, saying, "I've decided to step back from my job as the head of YouTube and start a new chapter focused on my family, health, and personal projects I'm passionate about." After this, Wojcicki will be serving in an advising capacity throughout Google and Alphabet.
Wojcicki praises Mohan's work in leading YouTube Music, Premium, and Shorts in her latest blog post. She also acknowledges Mohan's contribution to the introduction of YouTube TV, which has been highly successful. She also mentions that Mohan has led the company's Trust and Safety team, which will become even more crucial as "the promises of AI" become a possible area of growth. She refers to this as the "promises of AI."
It is the end of an era for YouTube, which has withstood public scrutiny over its treatment of hate speech, content moderation, and disinformation during Wojcicki's term as CEO. Wojcicki will be succeeded by Susan Wojcicki. When she signed up for the service in 2014, YouTube had just passed the one billion user mark, and "YouTubers" were still looked upon as curiosities by the general public. Presently, YouTube has over 2.5 billion subscribers all over the world, and many content creators on the platform have turned their channels into full-fledged enterprises.
Wojcicki was one of the earliest employees at Google and, in her own words, "managed marketing, co-created Google Image Search, led Google's first Video and Book search, as well as early parts of AdSense's creation, worked on the YouTube and DoubleClick acquisitions, served as SVP of Ads," before she was promoted to her current position as CEO of YouTube. Wojcicki is a friend of Google's founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin. Wojcicki
